I was staring at this book for few days - yes it was on top of Amazon bestseller list, but I do not have much trust in Amazon bestseller lists these days since most books that stay there for more than few days are not really working for me. But then I saw a review from a book buddy who liked it a lot, so I figured why not try for such a low price.
In the book which claims to have the main characters playing sports I usually want to see some sports playing and this book had very little descriptions of actual hockey games, the book was mostly concentrating on romance, and it is totally fine. I am just a reader who likes not just a relationship but an interesting setting for it.
I did really like both Mike and Alexey. The main reason why I was originally tempted by the book was because Alexey is Russian and I am always curious to see how Russian characters are portrayed. I was very satisfied with Alexei - he was not just a talented goalie, but he seemed to know that hockey won't be in his life forever and he seemed to pursue other interests in his life and seemed to have a good eye for business.
The romance was sweet and while some serious issues were raised, the book does not have much angst or at all. I liked that they became friends first, I liked the nice twist on a "virgin" character plot, even though I usually have trouble with "virgin" guys in their mid twenties (gay or straight), I really really do. But I thought the persistence Mike showed was nice because "I do not want to hurt you and I am not good enough for you" would have been really really really annoying otherwise.
Lots of sex scenes, but I thought it added to the story rather than destructed from it. One, two, three fingers should die a fiery death though.
There is a hint of D/S when they explore their desires, nothing hardcore though, but if you cannot stomach a little bit of spanking and biting, stay away. It is more D/S than anything else, really - one guy just really likes to be in charge when they have sex and their desires matched up well.
It took me a little less than hour to read it, but I felt for 99 cents it was worth
