Well, this one was actually a reread and I still enjoyed it lots, even though I have not reread it for years. This one also proves that sometimes the craziest set up could be swallowed for the sake of the story and characters if the writer manages to make you believe it.
So there is Farmington Gentlemen Club - grey opps organization who helps governments and other clients do all kinds of things. What's different you will ask me, it is not like we have not seen tons of books with the operatives who do half legal or completely Illegal things which need to be done.
Well, the most important difference is that this organization really does try to avoid things which are completely illegal - no matter what means they use, the ends are more often than not are the attempts to do the right thing, not just do the work for the highest bidder.
Second difference is that they really do take care of their members, do not abandon them, heal them, take care of them if they slip into all kinds of addictions during difficult missions aka Games.
Did I think that there was too much nobility in the set up? Yeah. Did I care? Nope, because cynical me wants our FBI, CIA, what say you to operate like that and knowing that this has nothing to do with reality, weirdly made me appreciate the book more.
Is there a romance? Of course and the guys meet during Tanner's doing a private Game (don't ask, but they apparently allowed to do some missions that they feel need to be done - it made sense I swear, there was a reason). Tanner and Marcus were awesome, plot had several twists.
And there was Patty, Patrice, Assistant Director of the Club and Daughter of the director. Funny, deadly and loyal to boot. Had I mentioned funny? "It is amusing to make people work for the things they want sometimes" (paraphrase).
Read the book for her if nothing else interests you :)
