Romance and other things

Interesting and disappointing at the same time

The Gumshoe, the Witch, and the Virtual Corpse - Keith Hartman

I really liked the plot of this book - I thought mystery with some anti fundamentalist satire, with a tiny bit of scifi, with some very fun other stuff worked well and really was not confusing.

My beef is with the characters, no wait, not with the characters even it is with the authorial voice and it is really too bad, because I wanted to love some of the characters and several of them had the potential to be great. But if you write the story in the first person and you switch the POV between I think eight or nine characters, why in the name most of them were sounding exactly the same. It was really, really irritating. I would be reading a chapter and then not even realizing that now someone else was talking till I saw that different events were described.

Teenagers, PI, singers, policemen - all sound exactly the same and they really should not be.
