Or should I say by one thing in this book? I bought it solely on the strength of the review by Wave on Amazon. It is *excellent* as far as I am concerned - mostly police procedural/ thriller with the light gay romance in it. Sympathetic, competent characters. Heartbreaking subject matter - child sex trafficking, but seems extremely well researched, compassionately written. I reread some parts several times.
And then we have *one page* with this "she/ male" ugliness. Reviews mentioned it, so I knew and was prepared, but it was just so WEIRD. It has no connection to anything! It has no influence on the story - just to make one of the secondary villains even uglier?
I never want to hear what authors think about my review, but this is certainly an exception to the rule (I mean I would never ask, but I am certainly more than curious) - I just want to know why, what prompted them to include that page in otherwise fantastic book? Ignorance? But I do not consider myself to be extremely well educated on the issues which concern trans* folks and "she/male" just sounds ugly and offensive, I do not get it. I doubt they wanted to be insulting, but what the actual crap?
